NICE TO MEET YOU

I'm Mihail Sestakov

After starting to use Agile ways of working in my team in 2009, I've not looked back. However, the improvements and Changes my teams could do were limited to the team's scope. Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) introduced team-of-teams improvements with the Inspect & Adapt event, but that was also limited to the IT development teams involved.

Then came a colleague with an "unreasonable request": give me an Operating Model, a Generic one. Which is an impossible task as it depends on many, many, many contextual aspects.  However, after my numerous refusals and my colleague's "unreasonable" persistence to do it, we've negotiated that I could develop an Approach to develop a Generic Operating Model.

And that's where it all began: we needed not only to develop, but continuously evolve the Operating Model based on the changes in the environment and context. This required changes to People, Processes and Tools/Technology/Data to be envisioned, solutioned, estimated, prioritised, planned, delivered and tested *continuously*. And all while doing the day-to-day work using the Operating Model!

Once we successfully implemented that, we started thinking were else we could use the approach.  And just like that, the Adapt, Transform, Scale approach came into being.

We now would like to share with you!

When you initially read bout the approach, it may sound a bit upside-down, like the chairs on the ceiling on the picture here (cafe Brother Baba Budan in Melbourne). But once you start using it, you feel more and more comfortable with it, and you can keep increasing the Speed of Change as much ayou need to.

You just need to try it!

Our Story

With extensive Scaled Agile Framework experience since 2013, in 2017 Mihail thought the SAFe Framework was missing a Change component and wrote the article "Change: The Missing SAFe Runway" (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/change-missing-safe-runway-mihail-sestakov/). After reading the article, a friend suggested he check out a slideshare.com deck "Taxonomy of Change Management Models" where Mark listed 48 models.

Mihail reached to Mark for opinion on the linkedin article, and Mark suggested it could be extracted into a standalone Change Model. And the rest is history: they started collaborating on a series of Medium articles under the Adapt Transform Scale (https://medium.com/adapt-transform-scale) banner and the courses here are a continuation of that effort.

"We had cross-department and cross-team Change initiatives that were we all new were very valuable. However, the day-to-day work always took priority. Using the Adapt Transform Scale approach we now have the ability to plan and execute *all* Changes, and incorporate them in our day-to-day work as the Team's capacity allows."

"We were tasked to rapidly develop an Analytics Platform for our company, and were looking at year-or-two to make it operational.
However, using the Adapt Transform Scale approach we were able to prioritise the requirements of our most urgent customers and start delivering initial valuable functionality within 3 months of starting work."

Why We Do It?  Why Agile-style Change Management?

We and you well know that change is essential in today's fast pace marketplace, so here are just 5 Game-Changing Reasons to Master It Now:

1. Stop Change Failures Before They Start
  • Test in small experiments, not massive failures
  • 90% of traditional change fails—this doesn't
2. Turn VUCA Into Your Advantage
  • While others struggle with chaos, you adapt and thrive
  • Transform uncertainty from threat to opportunity
3. Get Real Team Buy-In
  • No more top-down mandates that everyone ignores
  • Teams own their change = teams ensure success
4. Deliver Value, Not Just Activity
  • Focus on what matters most, first
  • Stop wasting resources on low-impact changes
5. Future-Proof Your Career
  • Master the change approach Fortune 500s are adopting
  • Build the #1 skill organizations desperately need
Bottom line:   In a world of constant change, this isn't just useful—it's survival.
